One of the greatest privileges of staying at our serene Schrywershoek Beach House, bordering the quaint fishing village of Churchhaven, is that guests have sole access to the southern end of the lagoon within the farm’s borders. You can wander for hours along these pristine shores, impossibly rich in bird life, and simply not see another soul.
This is where we come to embrace the art of slow living, slow food and being here in the magic of now. We come to detox in sublime comfort, restore sleep patterns and reconnect with everyone dearest to us. Can you tell? We simply love it here!
Once a traditional fisherman’s cottage and now an idyllic modern-day retreat sensitively renovated by Clinton Savage and his interior design dream-team, you’ll discover an utterly idyllic hideaway off the beaten track. Spend lazy days gazing at the parade of flamingos that stain the lagoon rosy pink or spot a family of ostriches ambling along or bontebok browsing. Go cycling or simply feast your eyes on the greatest show on earth… in just a few weeks, the reserve will literally burst into a blaze of colour as the Namaqualand flower season begins.

AMENITIES
Refined comforts

Living
The kitchen is fully equipped with modern conveniences, including a dishwasher, gas Smeg stove and oven, and two medium-sized split fridge-freezer units. Coffee enthusiasts will love the Smeg bean-to-cup machine, while a microwave, 4-slice toaster, and Smeg kitchen mixer add extra ease. For traditional outdoor cooking, an enamel potjiekos pot is also available for guests to enjoy.

Relaxing
The house features a cozy living room fireplace with wood supplied, as well as an outdoor built-in fireplace, braai, and pizza oven for alfresco cooking and dining. Inside, you’ll find WiFi, a Smart TV with the full DSTV package, along with access to Netflix and Disney Plus for your entertainment. A Bluetooth speaker is also available for music lovers. For added comfort, extra blankets are provided.

The nitty gritty
Check-in is from 2 pm (3 pm for same-day turnarounds), and check-out is at 10 am. No smoking is allowed inside, and pets are not permitted. Please park in the designated area. Children must be able to swim due to the lagoon. Be fire-conscious – do not overload the fireplace. As the house is solar powered, kindly conserve electricity, especially on overcast days.

Servicing
For stays of seven nights or more, one full day of servicing is included, excluding weekends and public holidays. A groundsman maintains the outdoor areas and is available after 11am. The water at Schrywershoek is not drinkable, so guests must bring their own and use tap water sparingly, as it comes from a borehole. Essential outdoor upkeep ensures a comfortable and cared-for environment.
